More about Alastair Lee Yi Wei

Can you tell me how long you’ve been working at M&C and what your role is?

I’ve been working at M&C since mid-October (so around six months), and I’m a content writer here. I’ve recently taken on a more active role in client coordination, especially with INCIT, and I’ve been doing more research for the content we produce.

I’m responsible for the content we produce for our clients, whether that’s long/short-form articles, blog posts, social media matrices, or any other type of content which requires writing.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

I try to read a book on the commute to work since it takes me around 45 minutes to get to the office and I don’t want to keep scrolling social media aimlessly (though I do still do this sometimes when I don’t feel like reading). For lunch, I usually buy takeaway with my colleagues (I bring my own reusable glass container – go green!) at the food centre which is a two-minute walk away.

Often, I end up eating too much and feeling sleepy in the middle of the afternoon, so I ‘caffeinate’ at around 2-3pm before hitting the keyboard again.

I try to not end work too late because my mum’s office is nearby, which means I can take over her car and drive us both home if we both end work around the same time.

Are you playing any games at the moment?

I am a huge RuneScape addict and sometimes I feel like it’s too much of a chore and eats up my time. My partner has asked before if I’m even having fun, and during those times of cognitive dissonance I know I’m not…but I am still unable to quit.

But for a more family-friendly and perhaps politically correct answer, I do play Pokemon Go a lot, and I play it with my family too. On Saturday mornings, we go for a walk just to play games and fight gyms.

What kind of media are you interested in (reading, movies, music, podcasts. Etc). What genre do you like best? (if you like multiple genres or don’t have preference, list some of your favourite’s of all time, or maybe ones that you are excited for at the moment)

I like watching movies and drama series, and I love action and comedy. Nothing better than to watch something a little more light-hearted because life is tough enough.

I’d say I’m excited for new seasons of Spy x Family – I don’t really watch anime because I prefer manga (reading is easier and faster) but my partner and I got really into it and we can’t seem to stop.

Do you collect anything?

My family collects postcards – whenever any of us go overseas, we’ll try to buy a postcard, write something, and send it home via the country’s postal service. It’s interesting to see how fast the foreign country’s postal service is, and it’s also a relatively unusual way to remember the place we just visited (most of my friends don’t do postcards).
