More about Melissa Fitzgerald

Can you tell me how long you’ve been working at M&C and what your role is?

I’ve been working at M&C for almost 2 months and my role is a Content Manager.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Currently, I’m fully remote, but we will soon be moving into our new Sydney office! My day starts with a cup of tea (always) and reviewing projects that I will focus on each day. I usually take on my most complex tasks in the morning and then move on to writing, my favourite part of my role, in the afternoon. I have lots of light in my office, which helps me stay focused while strategizing and editing. I also take calls throughout the day and check off my tasks as I accomplish them, which I find highly satisfying.

Are you a coffee or tea person? How do you like it?

Controversial to some, but I don’t like coffee, so instead, I’ve made drinking fancy tea my entire personality. My absolute favourite tea experience was in this magical tea house in Jiufen, set in the clouds and the location of the inspiration for Spirited Away. One day, I want to go to China to experience their tea plantations.

What kind of media are you interested in (reading, movies, music, podcasts. Etc). What genre do you like best?

I don’t know why, but my partner and I really like watching true crime docuseries on Netflix. Being a content writer, I also read as much as I can and like all different types of genres, including, no surprise here, thrillers/mysteries, but also social activism, contemporary, historical fiction, and biographies (my favourite is Tina Fey’s and the memoir, Educated!).

What’s the phone app you use most? What does it do?

Words with Friends – I love the high of playing a new big-scoring word. I also like solving anagrams, which the app helps me do. When we play our weekly trivia at our local hotel, I’m usually the go-to player for solving them.

Where do you get your creativity from?

I like to think that I have a creativity fairy who hangs out on my shoulder. She is sometimes noisy, meaning the words are just flowing, and other times, when I have a blank page in front of me and don’t know where to start, she’s gone to another creative to help them. Her name is Matilda. If you see her, please tell her I need her next week for some projects.
