Inspire – Create – Grow is our mantra for 2015. I can’t think of a more appropriate way to kick start the year living and breathing this mantra than by joining 117 entrepreneurs in Antarctica as part of the UNstoppables movement. This highly publicised think tank takes entrepreneurs and investors outside their comfort zone to inspire each other, create new businesses together and ultimately grow together through a once in a life time opportunity.

I am delighted to be one of the entrepreneurs participating in the Fire on Ice expedition, recognized for my passion for business and ability to bring creative ideas to life. I was reflecting on my entrepreneurial journey with my mother recently and she commented how my grandmother would be so incredibly proud of my involvement in Antarctica.

I never had the opportunity to meet my grandmother. She was a business woman well ahead of her time. (I still think there is a long way to go for female entrepreneurs however my thoughts on that are for another time). In an era when female entrepreneurs were far and few between she was a creative business woman setting up businesses of her own in the 1950s!

My grandmother had a manufacturing business employing a number of people that, especially in the manufacturing industry, was almost unheard of. The entrepreneurial spirit has run through our family with my mother also running a business for many years. It has been passed through the generations and here I am about to embark on this adventure, as an entrepreneur in my own right.

As the mother of two girls and being very passionate about female entrepreneurs, I hope that by being involved in the first UNstoppables expedition I help create and forge a path that further supports and encourages the entrepreneurial spirit in Australia, especially for women. I know that being an active role model for my girls is helping to cultivate the future generation of women in leadership.

I believe that a lot more has to be done to foster and nurture entrepreneurs in Australia as well as to better harness the innovators and techpreneurs that our smart country boasts.
We look forward to reporting back on the outcomes of Antarctica!

Antarctica, here we come!
